Drew's Tummy

Darrell and I finally took Drew to the pediatrician today to talk about his tummy. He has always been a "happy spitter" and dribbled since he was born. But since we started solids, he has been spitting up more and now that he's started milk, he's vomiting some (sorry to be icky). He did not gain weight b/w 9 mos. and 12 mos. and is now below the 5th percentile for weight. The pediatrician wants to start with Zantac to see if it makes a difference. Originally we were loading him up with butter, yogurt, cheese, etc. to "fatten him up". She wants us to stop that and see if that combined with the Zantac will help. Hopefully it will!

Drew's 1st Haircut

Drew's hair was finally ready to be cut, so we took him today. He was very cooperative and even liked the clippers. He looks like such a little boy now!

Flashback Wednesday

My mom sent me some old family photos and I chuckled looking at this one of my older sister Gretchen and brother Jeffrey. Yes, that's me as a baby in the middle. Look like anyone else you know?? We even have the same little curls on the top of our heads!

Libby's Mobility Update

A physical therapist from Early Intervention came by yesterday and said that Libby lacks strength and tone in her hips. This is why she looks so limber and does splits all of the time-- not because she's meant to be a gymnast! But she was happy with some things she was seeing and even though Libby is functioning at a 7-8 month level for mobility, she wants us to try some strategies she gave us for 6 weeks. If after that, there's not much growth, then she'd recommend PT sessions. I was glad we called and had a professional come out. The PT also recommended some cool shorts called "Hip Helpers". We just ordered 2 in pink and will have Libby wear them whenever she's having floor/play time. Here's a picture of a baby with them from their website: They should help her by keeping her legs more together so that she can tuck her legs underneath herself to crawl, etc. Hope she likes them (and that they are cute)!

Growing Like Weeds

There is 1 proud mama (and speech pathologist) in our house because Drewsie said his 1st word today. Guess what it was-- yup, DADDY! I just knew it would be any day now since he is just booming in all areas lately.

Both he and Libby love love love ducks and have a blast with the one that Maw Maw and Paw Paw sent them for Easter since it quacks. I found a book yesterday (5 Little Ducks) and it actually quacks. They love it. I've been hearing "duh" for days now and then last night when I carried Drew downstairs, he looked at his and Libby's portraits and said something that sounded like "baby" for each one. I've also been testing them a little lately and telling them to do certain things and they are able to follow some simple directions, like "get the ball".

They are getting better at understanding the signs we use, too. Yesterday, Libby actually signed "eat" a few times and Nana said she did that again today when getting her diaper changed. She actually signs "milk" for food in general (or maybe she really only wants milk!) We've been working on "more" a lot and Drew has done it a couple of times. It's just amazing how much they are growing lately.

As for mobility, Drew is crawling all over, pulling up on the kiddy corral and crib and can stand with someone holding his hands. He took a couple of steps with the rider/walker that Nana gave him, but mostly is scared right now. It will take practice. I've arranged for a physical therapist with Early Intervention to come by on Thursday to take a look at Libby. She is still only scooting and does not usually like to bear much weight on her legs. But, then again, tonight in the tub, she almost tried to pull up to look at our cat Cleo. Cleo is more incentive for them than anything I've tried! Anyway, I'll post once the PT comes by to take a look.

1st Birthday Party

Yesterday we had a birthday party with our family and everyone had a great time. Libby and Drew dove right into their cakes and before we knew it, they were covered! Libby attacked hers right away and left little on the plate. Drew took his time and meticuously ate each bite, but he was still covered in icing at the end. You can tell they are having a sugar crash in their new wagon right after! Drew was crashed out and slept all night, but Libby was wide awake until at least 10 PM or so. See why we only do this once??

Today is a good day for Flashback Friday because 1 year ago my precious little ones were born. It seems like it was yesterday because the year has certainly flown by. But then again, when I think back to those first few months, I'm amazed we were able to make it this far! I've enjoyed every moment, even the tough ones, and I can't wait to celebrate many more birthdays with my babies. Here is one of my favorite videos of the babies when they were only 2 days old.
