For months I've been watching my blogger buddies' entries showing their twins walking all over the place with this Radio Flyer Walker Wagon. We already had 3 different plastic walking toys, so I figured we didn't need one. But the plastic ones were too light for Drew, so he wasn't confident in pushing them-- they'd slip from under his feet. So, I went ahead and ordered this Radio Flyer one since it is more sturdy, plus you can carry toys (or twin sisters) in it. After 1 week, Drew LOVES it and is even pulling it. Thank goodness for the rubber bumper on front of it and for daddies acting quickly near the dining room crystal! Libby has tried a few steps with it, but mostly likes being Miss Daisy. I hear she's the worst backseat driver, though...

"It's Not Easy Being Green," said the mango.
Well, actually, it's not difficult being green. And I apologize in advance to those who now have this classic Kermit the frog song stuck in their head. Actually, I know Uncle Jeff would love it! I digress...
My good friend Cheri and I were just talking on the phone about being a little more "green". Darrell and I are starting to make a few changes to help. So far, we have replaced most of our light bulbs with the fluorescent ones. It has taken me a while to get used to the new lighting (think bluish tint like a government agency), especially in the kitchen. But now it's not so bad. Our neighbors have told us about how they have actually seen a dramatic difference in their electric bill because of the new bulbs. I can't wait to see that, especially since the Carters store is having a huge sale again (shhh-- don't tell Darrell-- I am such a sucker for these sales, but where else can you get very cute baby clothes for $3.99 and to be of great quality, too?) Once again, I digress...
Back to being "green"... I've also been trying to buy organic produce, milk, cheese, and any other groceries, especially for Libby and Drew. It makes sense-- don't want to expose them to unnecessary pesticides, antibiotics, or hormones. I mean, I don't want to be having the birds and the bees talk at age 10! That's why we have only given organic milk to them. It can get quite expensive to buy all organic, so, by all means, I am not 100% organic here (I mean, chicken nuggets are healthy, too, right?). Just doing what I can. What I don't get is when I see foods claiming to be organic, but why? For example, Darrell was at Costco with Nana one time and they came home with a palette of organic pop tarts. What in the world is organic about that? I guess the strawberries-- which I thought was all artificial anyway. Regardless, L&D love them and we're down to the last case or so! I digress again...
One of my favorite places to shop for organic foods is a place called Trader Joe's. I love it there. It has that small market feel and the staff is so friendly and helpful. I mean- GREAT customer service-- which always keeps me going back. Plus, they have good food and prices, too. Today the 4 of us ventured out to Trader Joe's. It is so nice having Darrell come with us (for obvious reasons), but also because it helps to have 2 carts with a baby in each one. I love having the chance to do this because it gives us some good 1-on-1 time with each baby. Libby was absolutely ecstatic the whole time, perhaps because I let her hold the list (which was a tasty snack for her) or maybe because she held the Yo-Baby yogurt and loved pointing at the babies on the label. A few food samples later, we headed to the checkout. Then we saw these cloth shopping bags that you can use each time you shop. I've seen them a million times, but Darrell and I decided we were going to do our very tiny part to help save a tree or 2 (b/c they only use paper bags anyway). I was so excited to learn that they were only 99 cents each, so I picked up 3. Then I found that the very big and nice insulated ones were only $1.99, so I got 2 of those. I was so proud of our latest "green" effort!
This is where it ended... because I was embarrassed to admit to the cashier, who was really sweet and loved the babies, that I'd never cut a mango before. In fact, I can honestly say I've never even bought one before. My mom (Nana) is very allergic to certain fruits, so they are not in my "schema" of fruits. For example, I never ate fresh cherries until I moved to VA (and I don't like them). Maybe Nana is allergic to mangoes, too? Or maybe you don't see them a lot in LA, where I grew up? Or maybe I'm just completely clueless about mangoes for some strange reason. So I asked the cashier if I picked good ones. She said that you pick them by smell (great-- since they're in shrink wrap) and by touch-- you want ones that are sort of soft. GREAT-- these were so hard they could be used as weapons. Basically, I picked some not-so-good ones. Well, not that they aren't good, really, but that I'll have to let them ripen for a few days. I then asked how to cut them and she looked at me like I had 2 heads. I told her that I never really had them growing up and even as an adult, only had them in fruit salad that someone else made. She still looked at me funny, so I mentioned how my mom was allergic. Then I thought, "Why in *!?$ am I telling her this?" She told me they had a huge pit inside (bigger than a peach) and to cut them lengthwise. But then she told me to google "how to cut a mango". I felt like the biggest arse in the world. So, if anyone has any good ideas about our mangoes, I'd love to hear...

But the funny thing about our small steps to becoming more "Kermit-like" is that we loaded up our organic foods that were in their environmentally-friendly totes into our mini van that gets about 5 miles to the gallon. The only thing green about that is the amount of money that goes down the drain each week when I fill it up (almost $70)! Baby steps...

Summer Fun
Since Darrell is off every other Friday, we decided it was a great day to take the babies down to the pool. It is 1 perk of living in our neighborhood-- 4 pools to choose from. We lathered them up in SPF 50, put on their swimsuits and headed down the street. I bought these little boats for them and they just loved being in the water. We swam for over an hour and they were wrinkled little prunes. Libby loved to splash and Drew was just "chillin". We all had such a great time. Several of our friends and neighbors happened to be there at the same time, so it was a great way to visit with everyone. Plus, I was thrilled to see that it actually wasn't too hard to have just one person with both babies. The only time I'll need a helping hand is getting them in and out of the pool. But there is always someone we know there, so we should be able to go a lot more often. That is great since I need to work on my tan!
Here are some cute photos of the babies getting ready for the pool:

Swimming with Daddy:

On another note, I thought I would include some photos from day 2 post-op so you can see the nice shiner Libby has. Looks like she got in a brawl! She is doing amazingly well and doesn't seem to be irritated at all by her stitches or the bruising.

A little walking and a lotta screeching!
Here is a cute video I took last weekend of Drew starting to take some steps with the Radio Flyer walker wagon. I'm so glad other MoM's recommended that one b/c they both are starting to push on it. Of course, if either one sees me with the camera, they stop immediately! But I did capture a few steps. The rest of the video is Drew getting so excited about our cat Cleo. It is so cute to watch him try to "get her" and talk to her!
My 6 quirks (a fun blogging game)
I've officially been "tagged" by one of my blogger buddies: Webbmania and so here is my part in this fun little game we're playing...
The 6 Quirks Meme
The Rules:
1. Link the person(s) who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 fellow bloggers by linking them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged
My Quirks:
1. I have to always put on my left sock/shoe first, shave my left leg first, and can only carry a backpack/purse/tote on my left side
2. I am a little obsessive with my Purel hand gel-- so much so that my hands are incredibly dry and cracked. I have a large pump dispenser in my car (along with some of the Thymes Sweetleaf Baby hand cleanser-- highly recommend this one), a dispenser by the kitchen sink, in the nursery, by my bed, and about 50 of the trial size ones in every purse, diaper bag, and my desk drawer at work. I even have one of those mini dispensers you can hang on a keychain, except I wear it on my ID badge/lanyard I wear around my neck at work!
3. When I unload my groceries onto the conveyor belt, I have to group them-- all alike items together-- cold things, frozen things, beauty aids, etc.
4. I tend to count things in my head-- like panels in the ceiling, panes in a window, the number of tiles on the bathroom floor, letters on a display, etc. I also like to divide them equally (find the exact middle)-- something I've never told anyone and really think is a little crazy!
5. I have an exact routine in the shower-- shampoo, apply conditioner, body wash, shave (if necessary), rinse conditioner. If I stray from this, I often forget something-- like when I got out of the shower with a head full of conditioner and wondered why it looked so greasy after I dried it. But doesn't everyone do this?
6. I sleep in strange positions-- sometimes I wake up with my knees bent and 1 leg crossed over the other. Something I've done since I was a child-- Darrell thinks it's really wierd (because it is)!

Libby's Successful Surgery
Libby had surgery this morning to remove a dermoid cyst above her left eye. She was so brave and did great. She awoke from anesthesia a little groggy, as to be expected, and after a nice nap at home, immediately began signing "eat" since she hadn't eaten since the night before. I knew she had recovered! Actually, she tried signing "eat" at the surgery center before she went back into the OR. I felt so bad having to tell her no, but one day she'll understand.
Auntie Shan, Hannah, and Jackson (our dear friends, neighbors, and former landlords) babysat Drew and he had the time of his life. They are actually dog-sitting a golden retriever and apparently Drew went crazy laughing at him so much. But it doesn't mean we'll be getting a dog anytime soon!
Once we were all back home, Libby and Drew played for hours today, laughing and giggling and just having fun. The surgeon said no bath tonight, so they went to bed a little early and didn't seem to mind since they were both pooped! The steri-strip will fall off on its own in a day or two and the stitches dissolve on their own.
Here's a "before" photo taken just last week. See the lump on the outer corner of her left eye (under the eyebrow)?

Here's a cute photo of her in her little hospital clothes. She looked adorable in her top, pants, socks, and ankle bracelet! We only had our cell phone as a camera, so the quality isn't so great...

And here is a photo of her once we got home...

After lunch and a good nap and she's like her old self (with one less bump on her eye)...

Who's the Boss?
I am looking into the future and can hear these words coming from the back of the car... "You're not the boss of me!" Know how I can predict this? It's easy... my little boy Drew, who was once the quiet and reserved baby, has officially come out of his shell. I mean, WAY out. He has been driving Libby mad by being the brother-- you know, pulling hair, tackling her, etc. He also loves to take any and everything away from her, which really gets her going. If I try to intervene and then have them practice "take turns" by giving him the toy, he no longer wants it. It's only desirable if also desirable by Libby at that very moment.
Along these lines, I've been so amazed at L&D's language skills lately. They are both understanding, speaking, and signing a lot more. Well, Drew is really picking up words-- you know, the cute ones--- like Mama (with intent) as he was pulling on my shirt and then calling me over the monitor once he awoke from a nap. He also says "Daddy" on occasion, "ball", and makes a cute meowing sound for "cat". The other day he picked up "book" and has been using it. I wanted to get this along with my favorite time of day-- storytime in our bed-- on video. So I pulled out the camera one night. He said book a few times after Daddy. Awwww. But then, right after that-- well, I don't want to spoil it for you-- he says the dreaded word that I thought he would not use until much later. Take a look at this video and watch carefully as Libby approaches Drew to see what he is reading...

Video Montage
I have been working on a video montage for MONTHS now and finally finished it tonight (or should I say this morning since it's 3 AM-- I am the worst night owl). I apologize for the fuzziness in parts-- in order to see a high resolution copy, you have to order it on DVD. Anyway, although I am a couple of months late, I am proud to share our 1st year as a family with all of you...

1st Day Home!
I've officially finished work for the summer and today is my first day home with L&D. I have been missing them so much lately since being back to work all school year. So far, they've had a great day. Of course, it's only 11 AM, so I would hope they would have a good day so far. Right now they are taking their morning nap. The sitter told me that Libby has basically been transitioning down to this nap only. Drew, however, still likes his 2 naps (as do I). I'm listening to them on the monitor now and am trying hard to stay awake since listening to their heavy breathing. So relaxing...
Since I am going to be home now, I hope to update the blog more often. I can't remember the last time we took out the camera. Although we did get some video footage of Libby cleaning the tile wall in the bathtub. That is her new thing. She stands up with a washcloth and wipes (more like slaps) the wall with her cloth. It is so funny and she thinks so, too, as she cracks up laughing. I'm getting excited thinking that I may be able to cancel our cleaning lady in a few years if Libby is that interested in cleaning. Will save momma some dough! ;)
The sitter also told me that Libby had been standing by herself the past few days. She hasn't done this with us yet, but we have only tried a few times. She has just exploded with progress lately. I'm hoping that her mobility will catch up. Speaking of, we're going to have the Early Intervention evaluation on July 9th. I wonder where she'll be by then-- maybe won't even qualify!
Libby is also having her preop appt tomorrow for her eye surgery on the 25th. I can't wait until that is over and done with. This is perfect timing, too, because the opthamologist wanted to remove it before she was walking since she would be more likely to fall on it and burst it or something.
Drew is becoming more verbal daily. Today he actually called me "Momma" over and over and with intent this time. He's been doing that for months, but when I was putting Libby in her crib, he was laying down in his behind me. He woke up and pulled on my shirt saying, "Momma" and smiling. I turned around and he said it again. Made my heart melt. He is picking up more and more words and loves to imitate yours. Libby is using more and more signs, so I'm pleased with their language skills thus far.
Okay-- off to do some chores before the babies wake up. More later (hopefully with photos, too)...

Darrell's 1st Post...
After spending the past year plus reading K's posts on this blog, I thought (actually K did--well actually she stole the idea from Kat & Brody's mom on their blog) that it is finally time for me to say something. Well, here I go:
My 2nd Father's Day has come and gone and I enjoyed my day (except for LSU losing game 1 of the College World Series). K surprised me with a bicycle trailer and four helmets (Dads must set good examples) so that we (meaning I) can tow L&D behind our new bikes.

For those of you who don't know, Pops restores old/discarded bicycles and makes them better than new. When we were visiting NOLA for Christmas, he surprised K and I with two custom (LSU and Jesuit themed) bicycles. Unfortunately, two bikes, plus luggage, plus baby gear, would have been too much for United Airlines to handle, so we had to leave our new bikes in LA. Well, a few weeks ago, he surprised us and had the bikes shipped up to VA. I can't wait to hook up the trailer and take L&D around the neighborhood. They love their wagon, so they should really enjoy the trailer. So for now, it's just a waiting game for our bikes to arrive. It should be any day now, but it's like being a little kid-- rushing home to see if the giant boxes are on our porch. Nothing yet, but hopefully soon...

Tunnel of Love
Auntie Shan gave Libby and Drew tunnels for their birthday and they just LOVE them. We got some cute footage of them playing in Libby's last weekend. It's a long video, so be forewarned!

The Latest Stats...
Lots going on in a short amount of time, it seems. Here is the recent tally for L&D...
TEETH:
Libby= 2 lower, 2 top nubbies
Drew= 4 lower, 4 top
SIGNS USED:
Libby= more, eat, ball, bird (just started) The other day she crawled over to me, pulled on my pants leg and signed "eat" right at lunch time!
Drew= more, eat, ball
WORDS USED:
Libby= eyes (for every body part, though), "dis"
Drew= eyes, "dis", baby (actually daydee), Da-Da or Daddy, up, ball, "eeeoww" for cat
FAVORITE THINGS:
Libby= books, books, and more books (can't have enough of them)
Drew= tackling Libby, rolling over a ball like a dog fetching it, being a daredevil in the bathtub, his puppy dog "lovie", throwing sippy cup 150 times per meal
FAVORITE FOODS:
Libby= yogurt or any other fruit
Drew= anything he can shove in his mouth at one time
On another note, Libby has a busy few weeks coming up. She is going to go through the evaluation via Early Childhood for her mobility/low tone. However, she has been pulling up and even cruises now, so we'll see if she'll even qualify. She is having her surgery to remove the dermoid cyst above her left eye on 6/25. It is outpatient, but she will receive general anesthesia. I'm nervous, but know that it's something we have to do. Actually, it's a pretty simple procedure I'm told. So that makes me feel better. Her cyst has been growing lately, so it's a good thing we're doing it now.
More later (and I promise not 3 weeks later like I have been posting)...
